Cabarete
This little tourist town is situated
approximately 30 miles from our anchorage. We rented a Gua-Gua(private taxi) to
take us. Originally we were going to take the regular bus, but it meant that we
would have to transfer 3 times, so when the driver said, “I take you there for
a good price”, we gladly agreed. Along the way we enjoyed the magnificent
scenery.
Even got to tease an alligator
Both sides
of the main road into Cabarete are lined with restaurants and small shops.
There are a number of Tour companies ready to sign you up to take you to a
number of area attractions. We chose to the Blue Lagoon Tour where we had 7
different stops. These included an animal park, a small plantation, a waterfall
of over 20 meters, 3 different beaches with lunch on one of them, of course the
lagoon, then returned to town in the late afternoon. Every stop included a rum
and coke before re-boarding the bus. It was a full day, the price very
reasonable.
This area is
known as the Windsurfing and Kite boarding capital with tourists travelling
from all over the world to enjoy these ideal winds.
We rented a
cabin at Ali’s surf Camp situated on a small river just a little ways from the
center of town. The sound of birds awoke us in the morning, something a bit
different than we hear at anchor.
Here's an interesting family blog to follow
We met them in Georgetown, Bahamas during Regatta
